Deliver a Revit Specialist Model

4 min. readlast update: 02.27.2024

There is not one way to deliver a model to other stakeholders. This guide below goes through one way, to send a "clean" model not using Autodesk Construction Cloud/BIM360. Talk to the BIM coordinator / Architect if there are any questions or project specific beforehand.

This workflow will go through both a normal Revit project file and a central model.

Revit Project File

  1. Open Revit, and go to Open model. Check Audit.
  2. In the Export folder in the project, create an export folder with the YYMMDD and some information about the exports.

Save as the project in the newly created folder, do not overwrite the project.

  3. Start by removing all Views, Legends, Schedules, and Sheets from the project Browser. Leave the start view.

  4. Purge all unused families from the project, this will decrease the file size of the model.

This needs to be repeated 3x to clear all unused families.

  5.  Optional: Some projects like to remove all links before delivery, but if that is done all spaces with hatches/colour fill will not be visible to the other stakeholders. Naviate Bimfire team do not recommend removing.

    Press ok.

  6. Finish by saving the model. Close the project afterwards and send the model.

Note: It's possible to remove the backup files that were automatically created in the export folder. The file size for the model should be noticeably smaller than the project model.

Central Model

  1. Open Revit, and go to Open model. Check both Audit & Detach from central. The latter is of utmost importance that it's checked.

  2. If nothing is mentioned in the BIM execution plan, or any other information from the other stakeholders, choose to Detach and preserve worksets.

  3. Start by removing all Views, Legends, Schedules, and Sheets from the project Browser. Leave the start view.

  4. Purge all unused families from the project, this will decrease the file size of the model.

    Press ok.

  6. In the Export folder in the project, create an export folder with the YYMMDD and some information of the exports.

Save the project in the newly created folder, do not overwrite the project.

Remove "_detached" from the end of the suggested name and save the project.

  7.  Finish by synchronizing with central and checking all boxes. Close the model afterwards and send the model.
