Dense Compartments, tips

A guide on how to work with the false negatives that will appear early in every project, and in some projects will always appear, because other stakeholders will not split their walls.

  1. Run Dense Compartments

Several openings that shouldn't be rated will get an unconnected requirement connected to them.
  2. Use the schedules to help identify where they are.
  3. Some wall compartments will probably never be split into parts, because it causes too many headaches for the other stakeholders, such as facades. This is not a problem, but we just need some adjustments in our workflow.

Select the opening requirements which are those false negatives, and select those. Change the value from "Unconnected" to "-".
  4. It's possible to leave the requirement as it's now, but there will be several visible 3D requirements with the value "-" visible for the other stakeholder.

There is nothing wrong with leaving it like this because the data package will be correct, but follow the next steps to clean up the model for the other stakeholders.
  5. Create an option set in design option and create two options. Name the primary option to "Empty".

  6. Select all those false negative, and move them to Option 2 (Secondary option)

It's important only having Option 2 selected. Everything placed in the primary option will remain visible in the model.
  7. Now when Dense Compartments is run, no new unconnected will appear; the openings will import the value "-", which means no requirement, and none of the requirements will be visible in 2D or 3D.
  8. Remember to keep track of the opening requirements when the stakeholders' model updates.
