Get started with Naviate MCP for Revit

Connect Claude — or another MCP-compatible AI assistant — directly to Revit, and describe what you want instead of clicking through menus.

Startup Guide · v0.13.0

Before you start

You'll need:

  • Autodesk Revit 2025, 2026, or 2027 — 64-bit Windows
  • A free Symetri account — create one at my.symetri.com
  • An MCP-compatible AI client. Claude Desktop is configured automatically during install; ChatGPT / Codex are also supported but need manual setup; see "Connecting a different client" below

Setup

  1. Install Naviate MCP for Revit.
  2. Fully quit and restart Claude Desktop, so it picks up the new server.
  3. Open Revit. If Revit was already open during install, restart it too — its plugin only loads at Revit startup.
  4. Ask for what you want. Tools appear automatically; there's no Revit ribbon tab or button for this.

Two trials, not one

Naviate MCP for Revit and Naviate Accelerate are two different products. Currently, you only need the second if you want the extended toolset.

  Naviate MCP for Revit Naviate Accelerate
Included Core Revit toolset Extended toolset — optional
Trial starts Sign in and accept the trial right in the conversation After installing separately and restarting Revit, accept its own trial prompt the first time you use one of its features

Download Naviate Accelerate from My Symetri. If a trial expires, contact info@symetri.com to extend it or discuss licensing.

What's included — Revit tools

Included with your Naviate MCP for Revit trial. Accelerate isn't needed for any of this.

Search & analyzeFind elements by category, type, ID, or parameter, and get instant counts and summaries by category, type, or level.
Select & inspectSelect elements in the active view and read every parameter, type, and value.
Edit parametersSet or batch-update values across many elements at once, or copy values from one element to others.
Build schedulesCreate schedules for any category, add or combine fields, and filter, group, and sort them — right from a conversation.

Extended with Naviate Accelerate

Accelerate adds a further set of production and documentation tools on top of the core toolset above its own module, its own trial. See "Two trials" above for how to get it.

Your model and project content never leave your machine. If a request needs a capability the current tools don't support, you can choose to share details to help us improve it — nothing is sent without your say-so. We may also collect anonymous usage data to improve the product. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Try these prompts

Paste any of these into Claude once you're connected.

Get Connected
Connect to Revit and confirm you can read the open document tell me what levels, sheets, and views exist.
If you need to sign in or start a trial first, walk me through it.
Model Audit
Give me a quick census of this model: counts of doors, windows, and walls by level, and flag anything that looks unusual.
Find and Check
Find all doors on Level 1 and show me their Fire Rating. If any are missing a value,
tell me before you make any change, and confirm anything you update by reading it back afterward.
Build a Schedule
Build a schedule of [category] with [fields], grouped by level, and show me the result.

Connecting a different client

Claude Desktop configures itself during install. For anything else — including Claude Desktop if that step didn't run, which can happen when antivirus or network security software blocks the install step that edits its configuration — add the server by hand.

Claude Desktop (manual setup)

Edit %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json and add:

Claude Desktop Config
"mcpServers": {
    "Naviate MCP for Revit": {
      "command": "C:\\Program Files\\Symetri\\Naviate\\Naviate.RevitMcpServer.Stdio\\Naviate.RevitMcpServer.Stdio.exe",
      "args": []
    }
  }

Save the file and restart Claude Desktop.

Codex

Edit %USERPROFILE%\.codex\config.toml and add:

Config
[mcp_servers.naviate_revit]
command = 'C:\Program Files\Symetri\Naviate\Naviate.RevitMcpServer.Stdio\Naviate.RevitMcpServer.Stdio.exe'
args = []

Save the file and restart Codex.

Using the ChatGPT desktop app specifically, rather than Codex? Its MCP setup may live somewhere different — contact info@symetri.com and we'll send the exact steps.

This is just the start. We're extending Naviate's AI tools across more of the Naviate product line — including Naviate MEP, Naviate Fabrication, and Naviate Rebar — so expect more capability here over time.
